Selank is a synthetic peptide analog of the natural human protein tuftsin. Originally discovered at Tufts University in 1983, tuftsin is a tetrapeptide that consists of 4 amino acids and comes from the Fc-domain of the heavy chain of immunoglobulin (Ig) G. Reports show that Selank has similar effects to antidepressants by increasing the concentration of monoamine neurotransmitters, in addition to influencing the brain’s serotonin metabolism.
